Whale Watching, Liguria

Make your holiday in Italy even more unforgettable and unique with a cruise dedicated to whale watching in Liguria! At the heart of the Mediterranean Sea lays the Ligurian Sea Cetacean Sanctuary: the perfect place to experience the magic of seeing whales or dolphins in their own natural habitat.

The Pelagos Sanctuary for Mediterranean Marine Mammals is a Marine Protected Area aimed at the protection of marine mammals (cetaceans).

It covers an area of approximately 84,000 km², comprising the waters between Toulon (French Riviera), Capo Falcone (western Sardinia), Capo Ferro (eastern Sardinia) and Fosso Chiarone (Tuscany).

The Pelagos Sanctuary is home to roughly a thousand whales and 30.4000 different species of dolphin.

Risso’s dolphin, beaked whales, pilot whales and the occasional fin whale all find the ideal environment for feeding and mating.

With these premises, you just have to live a unique experience on the open sea: admire dolphins and whales in their natural habitat! You only have to choose the port of departure: the boats leave from Genoa, Camogli, Andora, Laigueglia, Imperia, Loano, Savona and Varazze.

After leaving the last port of embarkation behind, after 30 minutes of navigation towards the open sea, you will arrive at a depth of 2,000 – 2,500 meters, where the possibility of sightings is the greatest.

From this moment you will participate actively with the equipment of the motorboat in the activity of sightings, keeping in mind that it is necessary to have patience and determination.

On board you will find a qualified biologist who will comment the sightings and will enrich your experience with useful information and scientific curiosities.

During the navigation you will have a high probability of encountering one or more of these magnificent animals and take magnificent photos.

Depending on their mood, these animals will accept – or not – to show their aquatic agility. For those who love whale watching, but not only, it is a breathtaking experience!

You can go whale watching from spring to autumn. In special times of the year it is even possible to do it at dawn or sunset.

Whale Watching, Liguria – Tip:

We recommend to prepare for the trip appropriately: A wind jacket, hat, sunglasses and, of course, sunscreen are particularly important on a boat trip. With a bit of luck, you will be able to capture some unforgettable images, so make sure, you take your camera.
