Best Beaches in Sardinia: Costa Smeralda

The Costa Smeralda looks like a magical cocktail of sea, Caribbean beaches and joy that is almost impossible to resist. The Emerald Coast is Sardinia’s most glamorous vacation resort and the coast has the best beaches in Sardinia. Two boulders bearing its name welcome you on arrival, one at the southern end of the road that goes from Olbia to the most famous places, and one at the north, on the road leading to the brilliant blue of Baja Sardinia.

The coast owes its name to the particular colour of the sea and to the chromatic variations of the transparent waters that creep into a labyrinth of granite rocks, forming enchanting views.

Just because unique, this kind of nature has attracted celebrities from around the world since the early years: big names in the jet set, sport, finance, politics and industry have been and are at home in Porto Cervo and have decisively contributing to create the fame of a vacation spot: Greta Garbo, Margaret of England, Gianni Agnelli, Jacqueline Kennedy, Juan Carlos, Harrison Ford, Sting just to name a few.

The Costa Smeralda has an extraordinary panorama arise low houses, surrounded by granite and Mediterranean scrub, numerous villas, golf courses and marinas perfectly integrated into the naturalistic framework.

To these elements are added the history and culture of a region with ancient traditions and an effervescent nightlife that takes place in trendy clubs, small restaurants, bars and shops of the enchanting Porto Cervo, the pearl of the Costa Smeralda.

It is not easy to make a list of which beaches to visit in Costa Smeralda, a kind of quiet oasis plunged in a natural environment that, from June to September, is not unlike the Tropics.

Here are the best beaches in Sardinia to be included in your bucket list.

Piccolo Pevero

The beach of Piccolo Pevero is located in the municipality of Arzachena, 3 kilometres south of Porto Cervo.

Its white sand and shallow water stand on an emerald-green sea, making it ideal for families with children (t he seabed gently slopes to the sea).

Embedded in a still natural and wild context, this spot opens with a dreamy view of the waters that change colour through the day.
If you like to golf, end a day spent sailing in the waves at Pevero Golf Club. An alluring view surrounds this impressive club boasting a 18-hole court. With its rocks, natural lakes, and hurdles, the court is a hard play even for the more experienced player.

Liscia Ruja

The beach lies in between the villages of Portisco and Cala di Volpe.
It is certainly one of the most beautiful beaches in Sardinia for its exceptional natural features: a big arch of white and pinkish sand that bounds a bay of clear and pure water set in a frame of thick Mediterranean maquis with strawberry-trees, cistus and junipers which nearly touch the sea.
P.S. It’s also a beach highly frequented by the jet set, VIP s and, therefore, by paparazzi.

Elephant beach

Elephant Beach is a splendid hidden inlet in the stretch from Cala di Volpe to Capriccioli. This splendid beach has crystal clear emerald-green waters and fine sand. It is named after a particular shape of a rock emerging from the sea.

The beach is in a really unspoilt area: no parking spaces nearby, no service of sea umbrellas or sea chairs, no kiosks, no chaos… a real oasis to relax. If you are good swimmers we recommend to reach it from the sea.

Don’t miss: the true magic of the Emerald Coast : at sunset we recommend you a romantic walk to Porto Cervo among the moored boats, aperitifs on the beach, or an evening at the famous beach resort Phi Beach!
