The Dora Baltea is the river with the wildest character in the Italian Alps. From the early 80’s, river guides have come here to guide adrenaline addicts of all ages through the river known as the “European Colorado“.

Dora Baltea River, situated in northern Italy, is the left hand tributary of the well-known river Po. The water body is almost 160 km in terms of length and is just the ideal place to go for a rafting expedition.

The river is mainly fed by the thaw of south facing Mont Blanc glaciers and its freezing and reinvigorating waters flow fast between rocky canyons, centenary vineyards and thousand-year old castles, giving to everyone whom navigated it the unforgettable sensation of a thrilling journey soaked into nature.

Being a snow-fed river, the Dora Baltea River remains in its best condition during the early summers – i.e. from the month of May to June. During this time of the year, the river usually shows its maximum strength. From the month of July to September, the levels are much moderate and the temperature is much warmer.

How to get there:

Courmayeur shares Mont Blanc with neighbouring French resort Chamonix in France. The closest airports include Caselle, in Turin and Milano’s Linate and Malpensa. We recommend flying into Caselle because it’s a bit closer to Courmayeur. Gevena’s Cointrin is also an option. Then you can hire a car.
