Carbonara Virtual Experience – History and Anecdotes of the Beloved Italian Pasta Dish
Let’s talk about a real symbol of Italian cuisine, “Pasta alla Carbonara“: hot pasta tossed with a creamy sauce of raw beaten eggs, accentuated with crisp bits of cheeck lard (guanciale), and finished with a shower of grated aged Pecorino Romano cheese plus ground black pepper .
This is one of the most known and appreciated dishes in the world and an undisputed part of the Roman culinary heritage.
But do you know who made the first Pasta alla Carbonara? A member of a secret revolutionary society, a poor Italian coal miner or an American soldier?
During this virtual experience, we will discover the origins and history of this iconic pasta, talk about the pasta tradition and we will prepare together the perfect Carbonara!
Let’s get started with the ingredients! (for 4 people)
- Spaghetti: 17 oz (500 gr)
- Fresh eggs: 6
- Cheek lard (or jawl bacon): 7 oz (200 gr)
- Pecorino romano or Parmigiano cheese (or any pecorino cheese, must be aged and salty.
If you can’t find it, Parmigiano is the best option, you can even use some and some): 1
cup / 7 oz (200gr) - Black pepper
- Salt
- Extra Virgin Olive oil
