The Battle of Anghiari Virtual Tour: Leonardo’s Lost Masterpiece
Step into one of the greatest mysteries of Renaissance art with this fascinating virtual tour with slides dedicated to the Battle of Anghiari.
In 1440, the Florentine army defeated the forces of Milan near the Tuscan town of Anghiari. Decades later, Leonardo da Vinci was commissioned to transform this dramatic event into a monumental painting inside Florence’s Palazzo Vecchio.
But the masterpiece was never completed — and then it mysteriously disappeared.

Through paintings, drawings, reconstructions, historical documents, and detailed images, we will examine what the famous mural may have looked like and why it was considered one of Leonardo’s most powerful works.
We will also investigate the many theories surrounding its disappearance. Was the painting destroyed, covered by another fresco, or could it still be hidden behind the walls of Palazzo Vecchio?
Join us for a captivating journey through history, art, rivalry, and mystery as we uncover the story of Leonardo da Vinci’s legendary lost masterpiece.
