Hosting more than
30,000 artefacts over the four floors of the historical Palazzo dell’Accademia delle Scienze, the Museo Egizio is the oldest museum in the world dedicated to Egyptian art and civilization.
The collection is characterized by numerous objects and exceptional documents: statues, papyrus, sarcophagus, stele, mummies, objects in bronze, jewels, tableware, and other objects of the ordinary life. The most antique sculpture is the one of the princess Redi, sculpted at the time of 3rd dynasty (around 2,800 BC).

The museum of egyptian antiquities was founded In 1824 by king Carlo Felice, who assumed Bernardino Drovetti’s collection,which consisted of 5.628 egyptian exhibits.
First in Europe
and second in the world only after the Cairo museum (Egypt), the historical collection is placed nowadays in a Jesuit school, which was built by architect Guarino Guarini in 17° century. The Building was known as “Collegio dei nobili” (High College) but in 18° century it became centre of Science Accademy.

What you should not miss! The Gallery of the Kings
With its incredibly large number of full-sized statues from the original collection of Bernardino Drovetti, this is one of the most impressive halls of the museum. This space (designed by a movie set designer) have low lighting save for the spotlights focused on the statues and the black mirrors decorating the space make the visitor experience breath-taking.

The price of admission includes a video-guide which is equipped with headphones. There are multiple tours available using this guide; 1-hour long tour, 150-minute long tour and a tour specifically for kids. To enter the museum, it is compulsory to check backpacks (of any size) and bags over 30 X 40 X 15 cm into the cloakroom. It costs € 1 to check in your bag. You are required to show your passport or European I.D. card.
