Basilicata Holidays : Dive into crystal-clear blue waters

Explore Basilicata holidays and discover the best beaches and places to visit. Thirtyfive kilometres of golden, fine sandy beaches and wonderful, vast stretches of sand: this is the Ionian Coast, a place steeped in history, mythological heroes and gods, philosophers and warriors of the ancient civilization of “Magna Grecia”.

Home to sea turtles, the coastline provides the perfect setting for a relaxing holiday. The first stretch of coast is that of Metaponto, the cradle of the ancient Greek culture, offering plenty of very well-equipped private beaches.

Southward there are the beautiful beaches of Marina di Pisticci, hosting one of the marinas of the Ionian Coast, Porto degli Argonauti, the ideal location to enjoy exciting boat excursions and uncover Basilicata’s hidden natural treasures.

You shouldn’t miss the harbour of Marina di Policoro, which belongs to Marinagri resort, a modern and eco-friendly, all-beachfront resort of great charm and beauty. Closing the Basilicata stretch of the Ionian Coast, are the beaches of Marina di Rotondella and Marina di Nova Siri, which is named after the ancient land of Siritide.

But let’s discover the best beaches for your Basilicata Holidays

Lido Metaponto Beach

Renowned as one of the most beautiful beaches of the Ionian Sea in Basilicata, Lido Metaponto Beach is a family-friend and organized beach. With shallow waters and watersports activities, this picturesque beach is ideal for swimming for both adults and children.

Although the centre spot on the beach is usually crowded during the high season, you can still enjoy some lonely moments if you move towards its side. Lido Metaponto Beach attractions include nearby hotels, restaurants, and bars.

Nova Siri beach

Nova Siri Marina beach is the last of the Basilicata coast on the border with Calabria. The ancient village of Nova Siri stands on the San Nicola stream near Matera. Nova Siri Marina beach stretches along the Ionian coast.

Its beach is characterized by wide sandy beaches, mostly bathed by a crystalline sea that allows long walks in the water thanks to the seabed that gently swings towards the open sea. The waterfront is embellished with a green and relaxing pine forest and eucalyptus plants.

Policoro beaches

Are you looking for where to spend the day with your family? Policoro is a great choice. Policoro is a picturesque beach resort set in a beautiful location: Policoro is the heart of tourism in the area and is a perfect seaside town for your Basilicata holidays due to its fantastic beaches with shallow waters and clean sands as well as many nearby attractions.

The waters around Policoro are so clean that the sea is rich in marine life and dolphins and sea turtles are common in the bay.
The area is dedicated to the protection of sea turtles and other wildlife and is a perfect place for families to visit whilst in Policoro.

The beach of Lido di Policoro is almost entirely free with the possibility of using showers and bathrooms made available to its visitors. The sea has a colour that goes from turquoise to deep blue and the waters are among the cleanest in our country.

Pay attention to the seabed because they quickly descend and we recommend the use of beach shoes, especially for children, if they are not used to walking on the shingle of gravel.

Our tip: Visit Policoro Center and his Archaeological Park of Herakleia where the ruins of the ancient Greek cities of Siris and Heraclea are preserved between the mouth of the Agri river and that of the Sinni river.
