800 Years of Saint Francis of Assisi, the Patron Saint of Animals – Special Virtual Tour

Join us on October 4 for a very special virtual tour with slides dedicated to Saint Francis of Assisi, celebrating his extraordinary life and legacy exactly 800 years after his death in 1226. The year 2026 has been officially dedicated to the eighth centenary of Saint Francis, making this a particularly meaningful moment to rediscover one of Italy’s most beloved and influential figures.

October 4 is also World Animal Day, a date chosen because it coincides with the Feast of Saint Francis of Assisi, traditionally regarded as the patron saint of animals.

Through a beautiful sequence of slides, we will travel through the life of Saint Francis, from his youth in Assisi and his dramatic decision to abandon wealth and privilege to his journey toward a life devoted to simplicity, peace and faith.

But this special tour will go beyond his biography. We will also explore the fascinating stories connecting Saint Francis with animals and the natural world: the famous preaching to the birds, the story of the wolf of Gubbio and other episodes that have helped shape his enduring image as a symbol of harmony between humanity and creation.

Along the way, we will discover how his love of nature, his message of peace and his vision of all living creatures as part of one great family became central to his legacy and continue to resonate eight centuries later.
